MEET THE TEAM

CARL HAYES
Carl began his career in hospitality working in local Hawke’s Bay winery restaurants (Craggy, Vidals, Black Barn, Sileni). He later began conducting wine tours which is where his love of wine began. He left NZ in 2012 and his background in hospitality saw him working with major Australian restaurant groups in both venue manager and sommelier roles (Merivale, Rockpool Dining Group, Colonial Leisure Group & MAdE Establishment).
Bored during lockdown, his passion for the wine industry and connecting with people led him to launch Deco City Cellars ... and now Cellar Ahuriri.
He is also completing his WSET Level 4 Diploma (if he ever finds time to study).
COLIN LYON

Colin is a wine enthusiast with an extensive background in retail sales and management. He began selling fine wines at a boutique in Montclair, New Jersey in 2014 and quickly became enthralled by the expansive world of wine. He received his WSET Level 3 certification in 2015 and continues to enjoy furthering his education through tasting and discussing wines with fellow wine lovers. Recently he relocated here to Hawke’s Bay and was drawn to our diverse selection of offerings from New Zealand and around the world. In addition to wine, Colin enjoys craft beer, ciders and spirits and will be working to expand our selections in those categories.
SHAMEIL LEWIS
Sham started with Deco City Cellars when we first opened in October as a pop up on Emerson Street. She has a passion for all things wine, (also a bit of gin obviously) and is currently studying viticulture and wine science at EIT. Born in Hawkes Bay, visiting the wineries sparked an interest in winemaking very early on and is now pursuing that dream.
Cooking is another love of Shams and she is always experimenting with new wines from the store to pair with her meal.
